Ongoing Website Maintenance Checklist
A website isn't 'finished' at launch. Here's what's worth checking on a regular basis to keep it secure, fast and working.
Monthly
- Confirm backups are actually running (not just scheduled — check a recent one exists)
- Update plugins, themes and core software
- Check for broken links, especially on your most-visited pages
- Review page speed and flag anything that's slowed down
Quarterly
- Review analytics for pages with unusually high bounce rates
- Test every form on the site — it's common for one to quietly break after an update
- Check your SSL certificate hasn't lapsed or is due for renewal
Annually
- Review whether the design and content still reflect the business accurately
- Check domain and hosting renewal dates well ahead of time
- Audit old content for anything outdated that should be updated or removed
