Website Launch Checklist
The 20 things worth double-checking before your new site goes live — the ones that are easy to miss under launch-day pressure.
Before you flip the switch
- Every page has a unique, descriptive title and meta description
- Contact forms have been tested with a real submission, not just visually checked
- All placeholder text and "lorem ipsum" content has been replaced
- Images have alt text, and none are stretched or pixelated
- The site works properly on a real phone, not just a resized browser window
- SSL certificate is active — the address bar shows the padlock, not a warning
- 404 page exists and links back to the homepage
- Google Analytics (or your tracking of choice) is installed and firing correctly
The day you launch
- Submit your sitemap to Google Search Console
- Check that old URLs redirect properly if this is a rebuild, not a first launch
- Test every form once more on the live domain, not just staging
- Check page speed on both mobile and desktop
- Confirm email addresses linked from the site (mailto: links) are correct
The week after
- Monitor for 404 errors in Search Console and fix any that appear
- Check analytics daily for anything obviously broken (zero traffic to a page, sudden bounce spikes)
- Ask a few real people — not just your team — to try using the site and report anything confusing
